Looking for online professional development? Our Teacher Resource Room has 3.5 hours of online training that can be used towards professional hours of learning.
Empower Oz—Online Learning Platform
Student-focused content. Teacher-friendly platform.
Empower Oz
As the Department for Education’s preferred provider of Alcohol & Other Drug education to South Australian secondary schools, Encounter Youth has empowered young people across the state for over two decades through our Empower Education program.
In Empower Oz—our online learning platform—we’ve shaped our evidence-based education program into engaging video-style modules that are both student focused and teacher friendly. Available for each year level from Year 7 through to Year 12, Empower Oz is age-appropriate education that is mapped to the Australian Curriculum (V 9.0) and Keeping Safe Child Protection Curriculum (2023).
Privacy & Security
Our online learning platform is hosted on our secure website and your students’ information—specifically their name, contact email address and course progress—is securely stored and available solely to you as the coordinator and the Empower Education staff.
Furthermore, we erase all data pertaining to your school and your students at the end of the learning year. While this will require a fresh registration process each year, we have decided on this course of action in line with privacy and security best practice.
Student Focused
Our engaging video content empowers students to look after themselves, to look after their friends and to make positive choices that are right for them. Empower Oz is based on the ever-popular, research-rich content students enjoy in our in-person seminars.
Teacher Friendly
In Empower Oz, there’s no course preparation required. With the Teacher Pack we provide, you’ll have everything required to let your students independently engage with the online content or to guide meaningful classroom discussions at a pace that suits you.
Teacher Dashboard
Through our online Teacher Dashboard, you can monitor and manage your students’ progress. You have full control over the students at your school to monitor their progress as much or as little as you feel is necessary.
Teacher Resource Room
We will give you and nine other teachers from your school free access to our Teacher Resource Room, which provides teachers with resources and information to support young people to make positive choices around Alcohol & Other Drugs. You’ll also have access to 3.5 hours of professional development. In South Australia, this can be used towards your professional learning hours.
Working Together To Educate Your Students
We’ve made the process as smooth as possible while ensuring you remain in control of your students’ best interests.
